“Indie rock at its best” – Wales Online
Accelerated Learning is a collection of songs written and recorded over a two year period by all members of Truckers of Husk, but also includes spots by Ben James the topless saxophonist, Chris Collins, Wal Coughlan, Ben Woods, Jimmy Cello, Steven Combs, Heddwyn Davies, Mary Haggerty and Iwan Williams.
While Truckers are known for live performances, which are often instinctive, loud, physical…Accelerated Learning was always intended to be a more structured and thought-out album.
The album was rehearsed in a scout hall, recorded with Krissy Jenkins at Signal Box Studios in Cardiff and mastered by Donal Whelan at Hafod Mastering in Cowbridge.
All album artwork is by the very talented Ian UhOh Watson.
About Truckers of Husk
Truckers of Husk are: Hywel Evans // Rhodri Thomas // Iwan Parris // Richard Williams // Kelson Mathias: 4 parts Ammanford, 1 part Cowbridge.
The band started life in 2002, albeit as a loosely formed idea, and with a sense of urgency that has since come to define them, didn’t play their first gig until 2006.
They have since gone on to collect a loyal fan base, including support from BBC Introducing, and played festivals including Latitude, Concrete and Glass, Greenman and Swn.
As musicians, Truckers of Husk are known for their unpredictable arrangements, percussive rhythms, dense guitar weaves and bouts of topless drumming. This loud, pulsating and textured sound makes them one of the most unique live bands around. The current and closing line-up of Truckers includes four-fifths of Jarcrew, Ammanford’s only band to have their album posted back by John Peel, because it was covered in jam.
In 2008 Truckers released their Physical Education EP followed swiftly in 2010 with the (literally) self-made An Awesome Tape cassette, featuring the Awesome Tapes from Africa and Person for the Person singles; each one handmade and home-duped.
Taking some time out to cultivate their beards, grow some children and finally put together an album’s worth of music, Truckers of Husk’s first full length LP Accelerated Learning was released through Cardiff’s Shape Records in November 2011.
